Hefty Tariffs on Irish beef could destroy sector

With the date of March 29th and Brexit looming large, several sectors are making preparations for the worst case scenario, a no-deal Brexit.

Agriculture is certainly one of the sectors most at risk of a negative impact from a no-deal Brexit. If the agri sector is broken down into different areas, then beef suppliers are perhaps most exposed to the consequences of this worst case scenario.

Recent suggestions of an EU payoff in the result of a hard Brexit may well be giving a false impression of funds being made available to Irish beef farmers.

Phelim O’Neill is a UK and EU market specialist with the farmer’s journal.  He says that if hefty tariffs are placed on Irish beef it could destroy the industry.
