Road users urged to take care on icy roads

All road users across the north west are being urged to take extra care this morning after icy conditions in parts overnight.

Temperatures plunged to as low as minus 4 degrees in parts of the country with Met Eireann’s yellow snow and ice warning still in place.

Sligo County Council say the main routes in the county have been treated throughout the night, but some roads and footpaths remain hazardous following severe overnight frost.

While conditions have improved from yesterday, frozen snow and slush remain in many areas and motorists and other road users are being told to exercise caution, particularly on untreated local roads.

More wintry showers are expected today, especially on higher ground.
