Two FG candidates selected in Sligo/Strandhill for local elections



Fine Gael has selected two of its candidates to run in the local elections next May in the Sligo area.

Last night, outoing councillor Sinead Maguire as well as newcomer Blaine Gaffney were chosen at a selection convention to run in the Sligo/Strandhill electoral area.

A convention to select the Fine Gael candidates to run in the Sligo/Drumcliffe area will take place next Monday.

The party has already selected sitting councillor Dara Mulvey, Dromore West businessman Blair Feeney, Martin Connolly from Tubbercurry, and former councillor Gerard Mullaney to run in the Ballymote/Tubbercurry/West Sligo area.

Sinead Maguire, a solicitor, has also already been chosen by the party to run for the Dail in the next general election.

Meanwhile, Blaine Gaffney, who works as a parliamentary assistant to Dail Deputy Tony McLoughlin, says it’s important new voices such as his are heard in politics.
