Group to campaign for a footbridge over the N4 at Collooney

A group is being established to campaign for a footbridge over the N4 at Collooney.

The group called ‘Safe Crossing for Collooney’ is being established by local Sinn Fein Cllr Thomas Healy and John Walsh also known as the ‘Mayor’ .

They have made a joint appeal for the construction of the bridge due to safety concerns for pedestrians.

Earlier this month, a lorry crashed and slide onto its side at the Collooney roundabout causing major traffic delays in the area.

A public meeting on the issue to due to take place in the Teeling Centre in Collooney this Friday.

Meanwhile Cllr Healy says the National Transport Authority carried out a census of pedestrian traffic in 2008 but stated the figures did not warrant a controlled pedestrian crossing at the time.

Cllr Healy says they are also going to hold a demonstration on the issue this Saturday morning to highlight their concern.
