Local transplant recipients want changes to new organ donor opt-out legislation



Legislation to introduce a new opt-scheme for organ donation is on the way, where consent to organ donation will be assumed unless the potential donor has registered a wish not to become a donor – but next of kin will always be consulted. Double transplant recipient, Marie Fowley, and Brian McHugh, whose daughter, Tara, had a kidney transplant, say the legislation needs to do more to increase donor numbers
