Sligo beat Belfast Harlequins to finish 2018 on a high

Sligo men’s rugby team go into the Chrismas break in Division 2B of the All-Ireland league on  a high following last Saturday’s 24-14 win against Belfast Harlequins at Hamilton Park in Strandhill.

It was Sligo’s third win in a row and lifts Paddy Pearson’s side up to fifth in the Division 2B table. They had beaten Galway Corinthians (19-17) and Skerries (27-19) on the road in recent weeks.

Ryan Feehily and Matt Davey were the try scoreers for Sligo who are also awarded a penalty try midway through the second half after sustained pressure on the Quins line.

The home side had trailed 14-10 at the break with the visitors outhalf Timmy Emerson scoring all of his side’s points.

But Sligo’s stronger pack took control in the second period and Davey’s try 18 minutes from time proved decisive.
