Dearbhla is Leitrim’s Sports Star of the Year 2018

Dearbhla Rooney’s already bulging trophy cabinet at home has a new addition to it – after the Glenade boxer was named Leitrim’s overall Sports Star of the Year for 2018 at the county’s sports awards banquet in Carrick-on-Shannon on Saturday night.

The award was in recognition of Rooney’s exploits with Team Ireland at the recent Youth Olympics in Argentina where she won a bronze medal in the women’s featherweight division. The north Leitrim teenager trains and boxes out of the Sean McDermott boxing club in Manorhamilton.
