The Taoiseach is expected in Sligo today

The Taoiseach is expected to visit Sligo later this morning.

It’s believed Leo Varadkar will announce the first round of successful applications under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund.

As part of Project Ireland 2040, launched in Sligo last February, the government is to provide an additional one billion euro for the fund until 2027, with €55m allocated for this year.

The aim of the fund is to strengthen rural economies by rejuvenating smaller towns and villages.

The Taoiseach will be accompanied on his Sligo visit by the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring.
