Europe Commission to create plan to combat spread of Lyme disease

MEPs say action needs to be taken to stop the ‘alarming’ spread of Lyme disease across Europe.

They have called on the European Commission to create a plan to combat the disease that is mainly spread through a tick.

Sligo/Leitrim Fianna Fail TD Eamon Scanlon raised the issue nationally early this year.

Currently there is no way to test for it in the country with samples being sent to a lab in Germany for analysis.

Deputy Scanlon welcomes the news and says over 2,000 people are currently suffering from the illness in the country.
