Concern raised over ambulance response times in Leitrim

There are serious concern in the mid to North Leitrim areas as regards ambulance response times.

These concerns increased during the past month with the transfer of the Carrick-on-Shannon based ambulance to Boyle.

Even though ambulance services have returned to Cortober, which is close to the County Town, inside the past week there are still worries how quickly medical crews could respond to emergencies in areas such as Drumshanbo, Ballinamore, Dowra and Ballinaglera.

Under HIQA targets, 80 per cent of potentially life-threatening calls for emergency assistance are supposed to be dealt with by a first responder within eight minutes.

Leitrim Sinn Fein Councillor Brendan Barry claims that People living in many parts of Leitrim would not be reached in that vital time period.
