Leitrim Cllr wants Government beef markets update

A Leitrim Councillor is calling on the Ministers for Agriculture and Foreign Affairs to update the farmers of Leitrim on progress to date in sourcing new beef markets.

Cllr Justin Warnock wants the ministers to inform farmers of discussions undertake with shipping companies to facilitate the increase in livestock exports post Brexit. He raised the issue at the November meeting of Leitrim County Council where he says he had the full support of all present.

The Fianna Fail Cllr says the North West of Ireland prides itself on its cattle, but it needs markets abroad and to be able to get them out of the country.

He said he fears that if left to beef cartels in the country, farmers would get nothing for their beef.
