Donegal taxi drivers to be trained in suicide prevention

Taxi drivers in Donegal are to start training in January as part of Taxi watch, an initiative that aims to train taxi drivers with suicide prevention skills.

Founded in November in 2014 by Derek Devoy, the initiative teaches taxi drivers how to help somebody who may be in distress or feeling suicidal.

With almost 1,200 drivers signed up, it’s hoped Taxiwatch will also be rolled out in Sligo and Leitrim in the New Year.

Mr Devoy explained how his own journey led him to establishing Taxiwatch.
