High jobs vacancy rate in Leitrim, low in Sligo and Donegal

Leitrim and Cavan are among the counties with the highest job vacancy rates in the country.

Donegal and Sligo are among the lowest.

That’s according to figures just released from IrishJobs.ie.

In Leitrim, job vacancies increased by 22 percent in the last quarter and by 11% over the year.

Sligo has shown a dramatic fall in job vacancies, going from 15% in a year to Minus One percent in the last quarter.

In Sligo, more than 1,000 jobs have been announced in the past year.

IrishJobs.ie states the figures are open to positive and negative interpretations.

One the one hand, more job vacancies means the economy is improving, with more jobs being created.

Low vacancy rates in a county could also mean jobs are not being created in an area; high vacancy rates could mean there are not enough people to fill jobs that are available or that the people who are there do not have the required skills.

Most vacancies are occurring in hotel and catering, sales, construction, architecture and property, engineering and utilities, customer service, call centres and languages, accountancy, finance and IT.
