Dail to debate bill concerning sale of Illicit goods

Retailers Against Smuggling (RAS) has welcomed a debate due to take place in the Dáil this evening concerning the Sale of Illicit Goods Bill 2017.

The Bill, aims to create a deterrent to purchasing smuggled goods like cigarettes, alcohol and solid fuel which undercut Irish retailers.

The Bill if passed will make it an offence to purchase such goods from an unregistered or un-licenced retailer, provides for the imposition of a penalty and an on-the-spot fine in respect of such offences.

Billy Gilsenan from the Retailers against Smuggling say’s the moves are needed now more than ever with Brexit just around the corner.
