Sean Gallagher uses Leitrim pitch to apologise for his response to false ‘Tweet’



Presidential hopeful Sean Gallagher has apologised to Leitrim Councillors saying he let himself down during what became known as the ‘Tweetgate’ episode.

Mr. Gallagher was of a number of potential candidates to make a presentation before Leitrim County Council today.

In the last debate of the campaign on RTE, a controversial tweet from a fake account was put to him about alleged fundraising for Fianna Fail.

He told today’s meeting that having got the support of Leitrim County Council last time round he felt he let down such councils who supported him.

He outlined why he chose to explain what happened at today’s meeting in Carrick-on-Shannon:

He also told the Council that in his view counties like Leitrim are on the margins.

And he would like to represent people living in areas like the North west:

Meanwhile ‘Small Country – Big Nation’ is how another presidential hopeful described his campaign today in Leitrim.

Peter Casey, a native of Derry but with close Donegal and Sligo connections says that he thnks more needs to be done to promote Ireland abroad.
