It’s understood the demise of rural services is a key concern for the Leitrim native who is also understood to be seeking to meet Councillors in county Longford where he went to school.

Ocean FM News was unable to get in contact with Dr. McManus at his surgery today.

Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy has confirmed he will sign the order today to hold the Presidential election on the 26th of October.

It will mean candidates will have to have their nominations secured by the 26th of September.

Leitrim will be the first of the Councils to hear from some of the hopefuls.

Sean Gallagher who got the backing of Leitrim Councillors last time round is expected to make his intentions on whether he seeks to run or not known by tomorrow.

FG Cllr John McCartin has already said he would support businessman Mr. Gallagher going against the party line to support Michael D. Higgins but Cllr McCartin maintains no directive was imposed by the party for all party members to follow suit.

Meanwhile, Sligo Councillors will set a date for a special meeting to hear from the presidential hopefuls at their first monthly meeting after the summer break next week.

Ocean FM News is waiting for confirmation from Donegal County Council as to whether they have set a date to hear presentations.
