Children’s Minister Katherine Zappone is to launch a national public safety campaign next month based on Leitrim’s ‘Use your Brain not your fists’ campaign.
The high profile campaign was set up by Comhairle na nOg in Leitrim funded through Leitrim County Council by the North West Regional Taskforce and Creative Ireland. Healthy Ireland are also to come on board now and help fund the campaign.
The members of Comhairle na nOg were inspired by a talk given by Rosie Dolan of the Bush Hotel in Carrick-on-Shannon whose son Andrew was killed after being assaulted on a night out in Mullingar in 2011.
Her family’s story inspired the group to launch this campaign which has now been shortlisted in the Excellence in Local Government Awards.
