IT Sligo offers repeat Maths exam as thousands fail the subject



Maths:

Third level colleges are offering repeat Maths exams to help students access courses.

Today’s results reveal that despite more students taking honours Maths, the subject still poses a challenge for students with over 3700 students failing the exam.

Most of the failures were at ordinary level.

Education Minister Richard Bruton gave his reaction:

But it can prevent students being able to access certain courses.

President of IT Sligo, Dr. Brendan McCormack says they are offering a repeat Maths exam next week in an effort to address this challenge:

Letterkenny IT is also urging anyone who has failed Ordinary level Maths not to panic.

The Donegal college is urging people to call them with any queries including the Enabling Maths Initiative which is available at LYIT.

IT Sligo President Dr. Brendan McCormack also told Ocean FM News today that there is no doubt languages are an import means of acquiring jobs.

However, he said the uptake of subjects with languages at IT Sligo is low:

Dr. McCormack also told Claire Mulcahy today that he rejects the notion that rote-learning is totally outdated.
