Councillor says community CCTV scheme is ‘unworkable’



A county councillor says a government scheme for community CCTV is ‘unworkable’ because of the conditions of the scheme and the recent introduction of data protection rules.

The government is to provide €1m over three years for CCTV schemes throughout the country.

But Cavan Fianna Fail Councillor John Paul Feeley says the ‘devil is in the detail’ of the scheme, which he claims is now in ‘a shambles.’

Cllr Feeley, who’s chairman of County Cavan Joint Policing Committee, says some communities have considered the application process and decided not to go ahead.
