McSharry turns focus to 50m after reaching 100m semi-finals

Sligo’s Mona McSharry will turn her attention towards the next week’s 50m breaststroke heats, and the mixed relay event, having reached the semi-finals of the 100m breaststroke on Saturday.

The World Junior Champion clocked 1:08.53 in her heat on Saturday morning at the European Championships in Glasgow to qualify in 15th position for the evening semi-finals.

The Marlins Ballyshannon Swim Club member moved up to 14th overall in the semi-final, lowering her time from heats by clocking 1:08.30, though that was not enough to reach Sunday’s final.

Her Irish Record IS 1:07.10.

The 17-year-old is swimming her first European Championships as a senior athlete, having competed at the event previously as a junior.
