The Independent Alliance members of Government are proposing that a grant of 1,000 euro be given to grandparents who look after their grandchildren for more than 10 hours per week. It’s estimated the ‘Granny Grant’ would cost the taxpayer 71 million euro, but Sligo-Leitrim General Election candidate, Bernie O’Hara, says it’s parents who should be incentivised to look after their children, not grandparents
