Gardai and businesses working to prevent theft and shoplifting in Sligo



The Gardai are working with the business community in Sligo town to prevent ongoing petty crime.

In the last week alone, €3000 worth of equipment was stolen from shops in Sligo.

The Gardai successfully recovered most of these items leading to two arrests at the end of last week.

One man appeared in court on Friday while the other will be dealt with through the Juvenile Liaison programme.

Chairperson of the Business Improvement District in Sligo Finbarr Filan says petty crime is an ongoing nuisance for businesses and the costs add up.

He outlined to Ocean FM’s Claire Mulcahy plans for a new Business Alert to help tackle the problem:
