First National Awareness Day for Family Carers on today

Irelands first National Awareness Day for Family Carers is taking place today.

The event is organised by Family Carers Ireland who are  to ‘Shine a Light’ on the longest day of the year for the significant number of people who are already caring for a loved one.

The event is important in that according to a CSO report, 1 in 5 people will need to care for a loved one by 2030 with their currently being 355,000 carers already in Ireland.

They are encouraging people to show their support by purchasing a ‘Shine a Light’ pin.

Head of Communications, Catherine Cox says carers save the government €10b each year.
