Government announcements on housing grants creating ‘false impression’ says Sligo councillor



A Sligo councillor says its ‘outrageous’ that government TDs are making announcements of an increase in housing grants for older people while at the same time the council hasn’t enough money to deal with the applications it already has.

Independent Michael Clarke says the reality is that the council isn’t even accepting applications at present.

He called for an increase in the council budget for these grants at yesterday’s council meeting.

But Fine Gael Councillor Hubert Keaney told him this was a budget matter and if he increased funding in one area, he would have to show another area where it would come from.
