Proposed road realignment works in the village of Ballintogher, Co Sligo, will not now be going ahead following local concerns.
Sinn Fein Councillor Thomas Healy says they have been cancelled due to concerns over parking spaces and traffic flow.
Local Fine Gael activist Thomas Walsh described them as ill-judged, adding that they were never a runner.
He said he had been inundated with calls from residents, business people and larege vehicle drivers over the past fortnight since the road works were marked out.
However, Cllr Healy says a major programme of works around St Theresa’s National School and Kingsfort Manor Estate is to be completed before the end of the year.
