‘Misleading’ roadworks signs impacting businesses along the N59 in west Sligo

Businesses in a West Sligo village are being badly hit due to diversions on the N59 road to Ballina because of road works.

That’s according to Dromore West businessman Blair Feeney who says signs for diversions in Ballisodare and outside Ballina are causing confusion, with people thinking the N59 is closed.

But Mr Feeney points out that the work is taking place on a only a short section of the road.

He explains why he thinks the confusion has arisen:

COUNCIL RESPONSE: In response to a query from Ocean FM News, Sligo County Council says every effort is being made to minimise inconvenience during these essential roadworks

And it adds that to facilitate Bank Holiday traffic, the road will be open from 6:00pm on Friday 1st June until 8.00am Tuesday 5th June, although some restrictions will be in place.

The road will then be closed to complete any outstanding works.

The council says it is anticipated that the duration of those further closure will be of a short term nature.
