Donegal win on the double, but Leitrim are knocked out of Connacht



Donegal claimed a double win in the Ulster Championships at Celtic Park yesterday.

Declan Bonner’s senior side beat Derry by 2-16 to 0-16 to book a place against Down in the Ulster semi-finals.

Hugh McFadden and substitute Cian Mulligan got the goals in each half.

Meanwhile, the county U20 side were comprehensive 1-21 to 0-10 winners over Cavan in their preliminary round tie, and they will face Derry in next Sunday’s quarter-final in Omagh.

In Connacht, Leitrim were unable to prevent holders Roscommon from reaching another Connacht final.

The Rossies won by 0-24 to 0-10 in Pairc Sean and will play either Sligo or Galway in the decider.

Elsewhere yesterday, Carlow shocked Kildare and Longford knocked out Meath in the Leinster Championship, while Dublin easily beat Wicklow.

In club football, Killybegs are one point clear at the top of Division Three of the All-County League, despite drawing with Convoy on Saturday.

Pettigo lost to Downings in Division 4.

In masters football, Donegal beat Tyrone by 2-13 to 2-11 in Letterkenny on Saturday to make it two wins from two.

Sligo also made it two wins from two thanks to their 1-15 to 0-9 win over Kildare in Annaduff.

And the Leitrim/Longford combined team beat Monaghan by 18 points to nine.

Finally in hurling, Sligo have booked their place in this year’s Lory Meagher Cup final in Croke Park on June 23, thanks to Saturday’s 0-20 to 1-13 defeat of Fermanagh.
