Farmers may take to the streets over new sheep tagging requirements



Farmers have not ruled out protest action over the Minister for Agriculture’s introduction of a new electronic tagging system.

Earlier this month Minister Michael Creed confirmed that from October 1st next sheep must be electronically tagged prior to slaughter.

Farmers say it’s come at the worst possible time as they are just recovering from the impact of the fodder crisis.

The suggestion of potential protest action came up at the Leitrim County Executive meeting this week.
