Sligo begin minor championship campaign this evening



Sligo’s minor footballers begin their Connacht campaign this evening with a home game against Galway in Markievicz Park.

Michael Duffy’s side begin their campaign against a Tribesmen side that were comfortable 4-18 to 0-8 winners against Roscommon in their opening round last weekend.

Sligo had a bye in round one, which also saw Mayo beat Leitrim by 21 points in Castlebar.

Roscommon and Mayo also clash this evening in Dr Hyde Park.

After this round of fixtures, the competition takes a break until after the Leaving Cert examinations, with round three not set to take place until June 23.

This year’s competition, which is at U17 level for the first time, is being played in a round-robin format, which each team playing four games.
