Leitrim to seek support from Minister to help progress septic tank pilot scheme



Leitrim County Council is working with the Department of Rural Affairs in an effort to try and get more funding for the new septic tank pilot programme.

The scheme was set up in Leitrim to try and deal with the problems anyone trying to build a one-off rural house is having with their wastewater treatment.

Councillors say the issue is preventing people being able to build on their family land.

Director of Services Joseph Gilhooly said they are now liaising with Minister Michael Ring in an effort to get more financial support.

He outlined to Claire Mulcahy at yesterday’s meeting of Leitrim County Council how this issue is having an impact on anyone building a one-off rural house:
