Gardai are warning that checkpoints will be in operation throughout the region this Monday morning.
They will be testing for alcohol and drugs following the Bank Holiday weekend.
Gardai will also be on the looking for speeding motorists; on the N4 last week, they detected a driver travelling at 140km per hour in 100km zone on the N4 near Dromod.
While gardai were following the vehicle, they observed it overtaking illegally on hatch markings.
Gardai are urging motorists to drive with caution, and not to drive at all if they feel they may be intoxicated.
