Breege Connolly named on Irish team for European Championships



Kinlough’s Breege Connolly Kinlough has been selected by Athletics Ireland for the marathon event at the European Championships in Berlin in August.

The Leitrim Olympian is one of five Irish athletes selected for the women’s event, alongside Lizzie Lee, Claire McCarthy, Laura Graham and Gladys Ganiel.

A six-man team has also been named for the men’s marathon, with Sergiu Ciobanu, Mark Clohisey, Sean Hehir, Paul Pollock, Stephen Scullion and Kevin Seward all selected.

Speaking to Ocean FM after she achieved the qualifying time for the event in Valencia in November, Breege Connolly said she was hopeful that her experience of competing at the Olympics in Brazil in 2016 would stand to her for the Europeans…

The championships will take place in Germany from August 7-12.
