Silver for Sligo youngster Dean Clancy in Italy



Sligo’s Dean Clancy has won a European silver medal for the second year in a row.

The Ballinacarrow Boxing Club member was beaten in today’s flyweight final at the European Youth Championships in Italy, by gold medalist Ivan Price from England.

Clancy had to come through four tough fights just to make the final, including three in successive days.

Leitrim’s Dearbhla Rooney will also take home a silver medal.

After impressively winning through three rounds, the Mullies youngster was beaten in her bantamweight final by Slovakian Jessica Triebelova this afternoon.

Rooney lost out on the scorecard of all five judges, despite another spirited showing, against a much taller opponent.

There was one Irish gold won today, with Bray’s Daina Moorehouse beating a Russian opponent in the featherweight decider.
