Level of home drinking ‘normalising’ the misuse of alcohol



The coordinator of a north west group that deals with illicit drug use and underage drinking says the amount of home drinking now taking place is normalising the misuse of alcohol

Sean O’Connor, of the Regional Drug and Alcohol Task Force, was speaking to Ocean FM News in the aftermath of the release of a shocking new report on alcohol abuse.

The report, by Dr Ann Hope and Professor Joe Barry, of Trinity College, Dublin, highlights what has been described as the ‘extraordinary burden’ that alcohol abusers cause to others.

And Mr O Connor says that home drinking can be particularly harmful to children, whom the report describes as ‘the silent voice’:
