Aurivo imposes new safety regulations at marts

Three of the Aurivo marts that closed last week pending a safety review have reopened.

Aurivo has confirmed that its Balla, Ballinrobe and Ballymote marts are reopening for business this week while Mohill in county Leitrim will reopen tomorrow week (Wednesday, April 25).

An incident in Mohill’s Saturday morning mart on the 7th of April spurred this safety review not just by Aurivo marts but by a number of marts around the country.

A man in his 70s was seriously injured after he was attacked by a bull and he had to be airlifted to Sligo University Hospital.

In a statement today, Aurivo said that new health and safety procedures will be operational in its marts.

It says that only marts staff will be allowed in the sales yard and new rules will apply in relation to customer access to various areas of the mart in the interests of the health and safety of customers, members and employees.

The Irish Co-operative Organisation Society (ICOS) has praised Aurivo for its response today and has urged mart-goers to embrace and support the safety measures being implemented on an ongoing basis by marts across the country.
