Success for Sligo swimmers in Ballina



Ballina Dolphins hosted this weekend’s Regional Development Gala for swimmers from Sligo and other Mayo swimming clubs.  Sligo performed well with plenty of improved times and medal winners.  Coach Eduardo Santos highlighted the ongoing progress of Sligo’s young swimmers, who compete regularly to achieve Personal Best (PB) times and progress through the competitive structure to higher graded galas. He congratulated the 9 boys and 15 girls who attended the gala  and represented the club with their best efforts.

At this Sunday’s gala, Sligo’s medal winners in the 100m breaststroke events were Aoibhin McGlinchey, Anna O’Connor, Alannah Cunningham; medal winners in the 200m Freestyle events were, Lauren Hunter and Mimi Lee, Daniel Rhattigan and Oscar Mulligan; medal winners in the 50m Butterfly was Lauren Hunter, Finn Cunningham and Daniel Rhattigan.  Oscar also medalled in the 100m Fly.  Medal winners in the 100m IM were Lauren Hunter, Anna O’Connor, and Daniel Rhattigan.  Anna O’Connor completed the morning’s competition with a gold medal in the 400m IM.

A group of 14 boys and 18 girls represented CSSC at the Tuam Regional Gala in Co Galway on the previous weekend. Congratulations go to Daniel Rhattigan and Finn Cunningham who medalled in the 400m freestyle and Liadan Ruddy and Cliodhna O’Sullivan in the 100m breaststroke. Caoimhe O’Sullivan won both the 100m Backstroke and 400m IM in the 16 & over category and then went on to win the 100m Freestyle! Meanwhile Ellie Keegan also medalled in the 400m Freestyle. Mark Bradley won the boys 11 and under 100m Butterfly while Mathew O’Grady wasn’t far behind him in second place. Liam Lee exceled in the 100m Fly winning the 14-15 boys age group and also medalled in the 100m Freestyle. Lauren Hunter ran away with the girls U11 100m Fly winning the race with a massive 43.54s PB and Liadan Ruddy won gold in the 100m Free with a 4.49s PB.
