Beast from the East hits East coast, but Northwest again escapes the worst of bad weather overnight



Met Eireann has issued a Status Red Snow-Ice Alert for the east of the country.

It came into effect at 5 this morning for Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Wicklow and Meath and will remain in effect until 12 o’clock tomorrow afternoon.

The northwest again avoided the worst of the weather, although there were some showers in North Donegal.

Showers of snow and hail are forecast for the northwest later today, with afternoon temperatures of only 0-2 degrees forecast.
