Search underway for Irelands first settlers

Sligo IT along with UCC are searching for evidence of the first irish settlers in the Irish Sea.

The institutions along with ‘Europes Lost Frontier’ are leading the search which began on Wednesday last and is running until tomorrow.

The teams are taking 20 different samples from the sea bed which was once above the water and linked Ireland and Britain by land.

Dr James Bonsall from IT Sligo, is the Chief Scientist on the project and says they’ll be drilling for core samples from the seabed.
