Leitrim Cllrs say at least one of the closed Garda Stations should be reopened



Leitrim Councillors insist at least one of the closed Garda stations in the county should be reopened.

The calls come as some Councillors feel the reopening of Stepaside Garda Station in Dublin has set a new precedent for the reopening of stations.

Fine Gael Councillor Sean McDermott is calling for the Gardai to have input into calls in Leitrim for Garda Stations to be reopened.

He submitted the question at a meeting of the JPC this week.

He says the closure of his local stations in Kilyclogher and Glenfarne has had a negative impact in rural communities.

He hopes at least one can be reopened:

He was supported by north Leitrim Councillor Mary Bohan who says it was a ‘big mistake’ to close stations such as Drumkeerin and Dromahair.

She insists people are living in fear.

She says they will now try and make a case to the Authorities at a national level to have at least one station opened:
