Bonner says he understands McHugh’s decision to opt out

Donegal boss Declan Bonner says that he can understand the decision of Eoin McHugh to take a break from intercounty action.

The Kilcar clubman has opted out to concentrate on completing his studies at the University of Ulster Jordanstown.

And Bonner admits that he can appreciate his reasons…

McHugh featured at wing-forward for the college in today’s Sigerson Cup tie against neigbours and current holders St Mary’s College in Belfast.

His side booked their place in a quarter-final tie against University of Limerick thanks to a 0-17 to 1-9 win.

Kilcar and Donegal team-mate Stephen McBrearty featured for St Mary’s College.

Elsewhere, last year’s beaten finalists UCD await the winners of tonight’s tie between Dundalk IT and DCU at 7pm.

And IT Carlow were beaten by DIT by 1-11 to 0-8, with the Dublin students advancing to face IT Tralee in the last-eight.
