At Donegal County Council, paper, paper everywhere

Donegal County Council is still wasting thousands of pages of paper at every monthly meeting.

This is despite the Council making a commitment to go paperless almost four years ago.

At today’s council meeting, two large booklets with over hundreds of pages were handed out to the 37 Councillors, to each member of the senior management team and to each member of the media.

These two booklets are handed out at every council monthly meeting.

This is despite Donegal County Council making a commitment three-and-a-half years ago that they would be going paperless.

In July 2014, each councillor was given a Smart Tablet and a printer. The cost to the taxpayer was around €13k.

At the time Donegal County Council said councillors receiving these smart tabs and printers was necessary as the council was planning on going paperless.

But three-and-a-half years later the Council is still wasting thousands of pages, and last year alone thousands of Euro was spent on paper.

When asked about the issue today, the council said the plan was still to go paperless eventually.
