Dept says ‘no payments’ on illegally burnt land on Killery mountain



The Department of Agriculture says it’s confident that land on Killery mountain on the Sligo Leitrim border was burnt illegally last summer.

Sligo Leitrim TD Eamon Scanlon raised the question in the Dail recently of why payments have not been made to 33 landowners whose land happened to be burnt last May.

Speaking on behalf of Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed, Damien English said these farmers were advised in May that this land does not qualify for payment as it was deemed ‘illegally burnt’.

He said all farmers have been notified and their only course of action is an appeal to the department:
