u 14 Girls North West League

Sligo All Stars 41     D.T.B.C.   30

It was an early start for the u 14 girls on sunday as we had to be in sligo for a 9.30 am tip off. We had 11 players available for the trip and each one of them did the club proud. This was our best performance of the season We won the first quarter 10-12, the second quarter 9-10 and the fourth quarter 5-8. Unforunately the third quarter didnt go our way as we failed to register a score and we got a bit sloppy giving away alot of turnover ball. However defensively we were alot better today and offensively we were making lay ups and shots were going in. Sligo’s spanish coach knew he was in a match as the “donegal girls” made life very difficult for his team. We missed the guile of our coach manus today as he was unable to travel but the girls are improving each week which is great to see.
Thanks to Ann, Gary and Laurie for the transport today

14 Boys North West League  – Division 1

D.T.B.C.   34       SAS     35

DTBC U14s boys lost by the narrowest of margins last Sunday, in a entertaining game against SAS.
Both teams were evenly matched in the first half as both quarters were level and at half time it was 20 – 20. Jake Graham, Oisin Mogan and Daniel Quinn were scoring well and defense was going well, but 3rd quarter SAS pulled out a 8 point lead. DTBC struggled with the press of SAS and gave away some silly baskets. DTBC had it all to do in the last quarter and led by Jake Graham and Daniel Quinn they battled back into the game but could not get the lead. DTBC had a few lay ups and free throws that went array and that cost them the game as SAS held on for the win. This is a young and very inexperience U14 boys team and games like this they will learn from. They are getting better every game. MVP was Leo McGowan .

U12 Boys NORTH WEST LEAGUE – Division 1

Blaze BC.   37   D.T.B.C. 18

DTBC U12 boys lost their unbeaten record as Blaze recorded as easy enough win. DTBC just didn’t get going. Passing was poor and the work rate needed wasn’t there. Blaze had played a few games over Xmas ,and it showed as the played some nice basketball and they won every quarter. DTBC know though that they can play far better. MVP  was Eoghan McPartlan with 15 points.

DTBC U12 B Boys played a very entertaining game away to Blaze but we’re unlucky to lose. DTBC took a early lead and held that led until the last quarter.  Ryan Gallagher, Christian Ward and Joseph Jordan got a few baskets but the whole team was working hard. Blaze though got the vital scores in last quarter and held off DTBC who did have opportunities to win. MVP. was Ryan Gallagher

U16 Boys North West League

SLIGO ALL STARS 41 – D.T.B.C. 39

Our U16 boys faced off against Sligo All Stars in the AVS Gym on Saturday in what was a thrilling basketball match.

1st Quarter was end to end with Donegal Town & Sligo All Stars going end to end with some great scores in transition from Ultan O’Grady & Shane Meehan ending up 10 – 7 in Sligo’s Favour.

DTBC took to the court in the second quarter and pulled back a score with a lovely baseline drive from Chris Darby to bring the game back within a point & with Ultan O’Grady getting to the line it ended up 12-12. DTBC began to pull away with their full court pressure defence working wonders which led to some great fast break scores going 17 points to Sligos 15 points going into the end of the half.

3rd Quarter, Sligo started strong & pulled the game back & once again we seen both teams going score for score at either end of the court with Sligo leading 29-27 going into the end of the 3rd.

The 4th Quarter both teams had all to play for & once again seen Donegal take the lead with scores from Ultan O’Grady, Evan Gallagher & James Mc Namara but were ultimately matched by Sligo All Stars. With 15 seconds to go Sligo led by 4 points in which Donegal stopped the clock which brought Sligo to the line. A quick timeout was called by Donegal & they took to the court & ran a perfectly executed inbound play in which Ultan O’Grady was set up beautifully off the screen by Oisin Price & drained a 3 point shot from the corner ending up with Sligo being 1 point up with 12 seconds to go. Donegal had to stop the clock once again which brought Sligo to the line in which they made 1 free throw under pressure. Donegal got the ball up court again & got to the line with 1 second to go for 2 free throws to tie the game but it was not meant to be and Sligo All Stars won the game 41-39 in what was a superb game of basketball.

D.T.B.C. 66    Blaze 21

Our U19 Girls had a busy weekend playing Blaze both home and away. Our home game was Friday evening at home disappointingly with little or no support.  Home games is an opportunity to show your kids that you support them in their sporting lives and we really need this to improve as support from home is vital to young people staying in sport and at the moment our players friends and families aren’t showing their support at all. Here’s hoping this changes real soon. As for the game Blaze sent over a weakened team that our girls duly dispatched with it being over as a contest by the middle of the second quarter. The fall out of sport is huge at this level and with only 3 u19s taken the chance to play our u16 team are the beneficiaries as they make up the rest of the team. This has been vital as we have only had 2 u16 games to date. Sophie Carr continues to lead from the front and along with Sheena Doherty and Orla Carbery kept control of this game. Captain Andrea Furey kept the tempo up for the home side as she probed the Blaze defence regularly and along with Anna Campbell and Courtney Harron were a constant threat to blaze. MVP was Sheena Doherty who is improving all the time. Team; Andrea Furey 6, Sphie Carr 27, Orla Carbery 14, Sheena Doherty 10, Courtney Harron 4, Anna Campbell 5, Aoibhe Timoney, Catherine Campbell, Lucy Clinton, Elizabeth Mackle. Coaches Kevin Sinclair & Rosa Devaney

 Blaze 42   D.T.B.C. 73

Our second game of the weekend was away to the same opposition. To their credit with their top players away on the ladies National league team Blaze came out that bit stronger for their home game. Sophie Carr was again in flying form and showed her class around the basket nailing an incredible 44 points. 31-24 at half time as Blaze had a 14-6 quarter win which was the only quarter over the 2 games that the D.T.B.C. girls would concede. A very good third from our girls 24-4 would wrap up the game but Blaze did rally in the last pushing our girls to a 18-14 quarter win. Sophie had a fabulous game along with the returning Meabh Dorrian who was also excellent While Orla Carbery and Sheena Doherty kept a good supply of rebounds coming in both D and offense. Well done to this young team who finished the league in 2nd place and go into next sundays Semi Finals against the 3rd place finisher. MVP Sophie Carr who hit 71points over the 2 games. Blaze will be an altogether different proposition next weekend though as there stars return. Team Catherine Campbell 2, Anna Campbell, Orla Carbery 9, Sophie Carr 44, Sheena Doherty 8, Meabh Dorrian 5, Andrea Furey (c) 2, Courtney Harron, Ava Maxwell, Nadine Mc Geoghan 2, Orla Mc Gonagle, Aoibhe Timoney. Coaches Kevin Sinclair & Rosa Devaney
