Storm updates: Over 4000 homes already without power in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal

Updated: 10pm Tuesday 2nd January:

Sligo County Council road update 10pm Tuesday

Strong winds  have resulted in fallen trees throughout the county with a number of roads blocked. Water levels are also rising very quickly with low lying and coastal roads in particular danger, motorists and other road users asked to take extreme care.

Sligo County Council Roads and Fire Services crews have been deployed around the county removing fallen trees and telegraph poles, closing roads and arranging diversions. This work will continue and the public are asked to remain vigilant as the danger of falling trees remains, and the combination of high tides, storm surge and heavy rainfall could lead to further flooding in low lying and coastal areas. High tides are due at 6.15am and 5.45pm tomorrow, Wednesday when risk of flooding will be greatest.
