Leitrim Cllr hits out at Minister over comments in RTE interview



A Leitrim Councillor has hit out strongly at the Minister for Agriculture for denying that there is a fodder crisis.

Fianna Fail Councillor in Leitrim Paddy O’Rourke who himself is in the business of transporting fodder to farmers says he is stunned at the Minister’s point blank denial in an interview yesterday that there is a crisis.

The Minister made the comments on Morning Ireland making reference a number of times to the new Fodder Task Force he set up recently.

Minister Creed said he would wait for a review of that group following their first meeting in Sligo earlier this month.

Councillor O’Rourke says animals are already presenting at local marts in a weakened state due to the crisis.

He has put the onus back on local government representatives in the region to highlight the problem to the Minister to ensure a financial aid package is put in place:
