8:30am update:

The ESB is working to restore power to people in the North West with around 300 homes now reporting that they have no electricity.

There are over 80 homes affected in the Laghey area, over 90 in the Ballyshannon area, 51 in the Kinlough/Bundoran area and there are still around 30 homes without electricity in Ballytivnan in county Sligo.

It follows thunder and lightning storms over night but the ESB says it’s confident that it will have power restored by lunchtime at the latest but probably much earlier in many cases.

Met Eireann has a rain warning in place until lunctime today but a wind and snow and ice warning remains in place until later this evening.

Motorists are urged to drive with care on the roads and slow down on all routes.
