Milford United Reserves                   1            v 4                   Glencar Celtic

Milford welcomed Glencar to Moyle View and it was Glencar who went home with the 3 points. Glencar started strong and took the lead on 20 minutes with Ciaran Doherty turning his man on the edge of the box and fired into the far corner. On the stroke of halftime Glencar got a crucial second goal with Shane Hilly finished well from a good cross. Milford rallied in the second half and pulled one back in 70th minute with Ryan Campbell lobbing the Glencar keeper from just inside the box. Glencar gave themselves some breathing space with Lee Mc Conigley finishing well to make it 3-1. Straight from kick off Milford had a great chance to pull one back when Ciaran Blaney raced through on goal but couldn’t find the target. With the last kick of the game Paddy Collins made it 4-1 with a good finish from the edge of the box. A good team performance from Glencar and a good team effort from Milford.

Donegal Town Reserves                   3            v 2                   Keadue Rovers Reserves

Keadue started the game the better of the two sides and found themselves a goal ahead after 15 minutes. Following a Keadue corner which Donegal failed to deal with Mark Boyle headed the ball into the top corner leaving the Donegal keeper little chance. Donegal got themselves back on level terms on 25 minutes. Shaun Kennedy’s low cross deflected off a Keadue defender into his own goal. Keadue took the lead for the second time on 35 minutes. Boyle brilliantly heading home for a second time.  Donegal Town started the second half better but were fortunate not to go 3 -1 down on 55 minutes.  Gary McHugh one on one with the Donegal keeper was unlucky to hit the crossbar and failed to finish off the game for Keadue. This kick-started the Donegal side and they found themselves on level terms 5 minutes later. A Ciaran O’Reilly corner was headed powerfully into the Keadue goal by Avi Rosenthal. Donegal Town nicked all 3 points late in the game with what is arguably the best goal scored in the Hospital Field this season. Keeper Enda Kenny threw the ball to left back Shaun Kennedy, Kennedy with his first touch whipped the ball 45 yards across the park to Gary Ward who’s first time cross was finished off neatly by James Kerrigan at the back post. A hard fought and well deserved three points for Donegal who were behind twice in the game but finished strong to secure a 3-2 victory.

Glenea United Reserves                   2            v 2                   Castlefin Celtic Reserves

Both sides took a while to get going with both having half chances to open the scoring. It was the away side that opened the scoring on 18 minutes when Damian Mc Glinchey got free to head home a corner. Glenea pushed hard for an equaliser and came closest when Gerard Maguire headed a cross back across the goal and Sean McBride saw his effort well saved and Neil Mc Geever scooped the rebound over the bar. In the 2nd half the home side continued to press but with Castlefin looking dangerous on the break. Glenea equalised on 60 minutes when the Castlefin defence put themselves under pressure and Sean McBride picked up the loose ball and chipped in from the edge of the box. The away side regained the lead on 65 minutes when Ronan Tourish was played in but saw his effort saved by Shaun Mc Clafferty however Michael McConnell was on hand to slide home the rebound. Glenea had a couple of half chances to equalise but it was Kevin Nelis who came closest to extending Castelfin’s lead. Glenea equalised on 85 minutes when Sean McBride’s through ball released Denis Coll and he found the corner of the net. Team efforts from both sides. Referee: Joe McHugh.

Old Orchard Saturday Division Two

Gweedore Celtic Reserves                1            v 1                   Drumoghill F.C. Reserves

Gweedore Celtic welcomed Drumoghill to an Screaban with both teams finding it difficult to settle into the match after a 3-week break. There were very few chances created by both teams in the first half but it was Celtic who took the lead on 30 minutes after a long range shot from Daniel McLaughlin rebounded from the keeper to Kyron Glennon who was first to react and slot home from 3 yards. The home team started brightly in the second half but Drumoghill kept pressing and nearly equalised but were stopped by an inform Joe McGee between the posts for Gweedore. Drumoghill did eventually square the match with 10 minutes remaining. Both teams tried to look for the winner but the match finished all square.

Dunlewey Celtic                                4            v 0                   Lagan Harps Reserves

The first half was a tight affair for the most part but the game turned nearing the latter stages when Liam McMullan broke the deadlock. In the second half Dunlewey started strongly and Liam McMullan added his 2nd goal. Lagan Harps were unlucky not to get back in the game when they failed to convert a penalty. Dunlewey capitalised on this when Mark Roarty broke through the defence and slotted home. Liam McMullan finished his fine display with his third goal. Ciaran Scanlon controlled the game from midfield with Chris Cannon and Keith Sweeney always proving dangerous on both wings. A strong performance all round from Dunlewey.

Kildrum Tigers Reserves                   0            v 1                   Drumkeen United Reserves

A Mark Bonner goal after eight minutes settled this match at the Boat Hole. Both sides had free-kicks off the posts as the match unfolded but neither side could find the net. Denim Rowan was best for Kildrum and Drumkeen played well as a unit.

FAI Junior Cup

Castlefin Celtic                                              2            v 0                   Carrigaline United

Castlefin advanced to the last 32 of the FAI Junior Cup after a hard-fought victory over Cork side Carriagaline. In an even first half there was very little between the teams. JP Malley went closest for the hosts when he blazed wide from close range. The visitors had a great chance themselves when John Long rattled the crossbar with a thumping header midway through the first half. In the second half the hosts upped the tempo and were rewarded when a delightful Barry Tourish cross from the left was smashed home by Malley in the 65th minute. Castlefin had further chances to increase their lead, a Tourish effort was well defended by Greg O’ Halloran. In the 70th minute the hosts doubled their lead when Ian Ward rifled in from the right. The hosts stood firm amid mounting pressure from the visitors to advance from the next round. Best for Castlefin: Gary Mc Nulty and Johnny Doherty. Referee: Mick Lagan Assistants: Dessie Mc Laughlin and Brian O Kane.

Donegal Town                                   1            v 2                   Milford United

Chances were few and far between in a tightly contested first-half. Barry Mulligan came closest for Donegal when his near post header was saved by Milford keeper Caolan Mc Gettigan. Conor McHugh was unlucky not to put Milford ahead late in the first half. McHugh found himself one on one with the Donegal keeper but failed to hit the target. The second half produced a cracking game of football as both sides started attacking in search of all three points. The breakthrough came for Donegal when Ben Sweeney was awarded a penalty after he was pushed inside the Milford box. Donegal’s Daniel McHugh made no mistake from the spot kick hammering the ball high and hard past the Milford keeper. Donegal had their chance to seal all three points on 75 minutes with Joe McIntyre carrying the ball brilliantly into the Milford box but unable to square the ball across the goal line. In the next passage of play Milford broke up the other end of the pitch. Terence Shields forced a decent save from the Donegal keeper Gavin Mulreany but Milford’s Adam Serrinha was on hand to fire the rebound low into the Donegal net. Onlookers were treated to end to end football for the final 15 minutes as both teams made positive attacking substitutions. It was Milford who had the final say and clinched all 3 points following a 94th minute Donegal OG.

Kilmacrennan Celtic                         0            v 1                   Kildrum Tigers

Kilmacrennan Celtic hosted Kildrum Tigers in a Premier Division clash at the Flagpole. Kilmacrennan didn’t start for the first 20 minutes of the game and this cost them 3 points as Kildrum scored what would be the winner just 10 minutes into the game when Damien Crossan found himself in front of the Kilmacrennan goal and his strike took a serious deflection and found the back of the net. Although this was the only goal of the game it was very entertaining to watch. Both teams kept pushing for another goal but unfortunately for the Kilmacrennan men none came. Although Kilmacrennan were awarded a penalty deep into the second half the Kildrum keeper pulled of a great save. Kilmacrennan tried hard but it wasn’t to be their day. Best for Kilmacrennan: Daniel McLaughlin. Best for Kildrum: Team Effort. Referee: Joe McHugh

Keadue Rovers                                  1            v 0                   Ballybofey United

Keadue kept up their recent excellent league form with a narrow win over Ballybofey United at Central Park. This was a close game played in reasonable conditions for the time year and the visitors were quickest to settle moving the ball about well but there were no chances to speak of.  On ten minutes Keadue’s Cory Gallagher had the game’s first decent chance when he headed over from a corner. Ballybofey came close on eighteen minutes when Gavin Doherty’s long range effort went just wide of the far post. The away side then had a period on top. They should’ve been ahead on twenty-five when, following a defensive mix up, their header hit the post and was cleared. Keadue possession on the half hour led to a long-range effort from Hugh Moy and a few minutes later Cory Gallagher broke in from the right-hand side but his effort was saved by Chris Patton and at the turnaround it was scoreless. Into the second half and again it was Ballybofey who were the brighter to start with forcing a few corners and free kicks. Keadue started to get a bit of a foothold after that and had efforts from both Shaun Burns and Luke Neely coming up to the hour mark. On sixty-one minutes Cory Gallagher should’ve given Keadue the lead but his lobbed effort was saved by the keeper. Just one minute later he made amends however when following some good work by Shaun Burns the ball made its way to Gallagher who slammed home to the bottom right corner from the edge of the area. This led to a good spell for Keadue with lots of possession and on sixty-seven minutes David Ward’s shot was saved by the keeper. Cory Gallagher had another long-range effort saved. Ballybofey started to come back into it and had a shot go close to the Keadue net. Ballybofey had lots of possession in the last five minutes but just couldn’t break down a resolute home defence and it finished with a Keadue victory. A good game of football to watch with both teams giving it their all. Best for Ballybofey were Chris Patton, Shaun McGowan, Gavin Doherty and Brian Lafferty while best for Keadue were Luke Neely, Cory Gallagher, David Ward and Michael Greene. Referee: Liam Mc Conigley.

St. Catherines                                    4            v 1                   Gweedore Celtic

The home team started the strongest and within 2 minutes Niall Campbell met a low cross from Stephen Lesley for 1-0. Ryan Farrell was tormenting the Gweedore defence and was taken down inside the box on 23 minutes. This was cooly dispatched by Daniel Breslin for 2-0. The saints remained the dominant team but Gweedore against the run of play were awarded a soft penalty on 40 minutes and Tomas Diver slotted home for 2-1 at half time. Gweedore played better football in the second half but very rarely troubled the home keeper. On 65minutes Daniel Breslin met a superbly flighted corner from Gary Mc Hugh and the saints were 3-1 up and cruising. Conor Doherty then played a superb one two with Niall Campbell and latching on to the return ball himself he made the game safe at 4-1 on 80minutes. Colin Ferry was best for Gweedore and Christopher Murrin was best for St Catherines clearing everything that came his way for the 90 minutes.

Dunkineely Celtic                              1            v 1                   Erne Wanderers

This game at Darney Park was end to end from start to finish. Dunkineely had the first chance of the match and almost took the lead on the 5th minute when a great through ball from Cian Kennedy found Paul Murrin who rocketed into the side netting. David Dolan broke the offside trap smartly in the 30th minute but a superb save by Paddy Gallagher kept the sides all square at the half-time break. Erne took the lead in the 54th minute from a great passage of play and Ronan Cox headed in from close range. The lead didn’t last long though, a ball over the top from Paul Murrin found Daniel Gallagher who blasted to the back of the net. Dunkineely had a chance to win it at the end but a draw seemed a fair result. Best for Dunkineely were Seanie O’Shea and Damien Quigley. Best for Erne Wanderers were Diarmuid Slevin and Ronan Cox.

Glenree United                                 6            v 2                   Letterbarrow Celtic

On a damp miserable day in Glenree Park in was the home side who came out on top. Letterbarrow took a 10th minute lead. Glenree equalised on 17 minutes through Danny Langan. Oisin Boyce then gave Glenree a 22nd minute lead. Langan added his second on 29 minutes from long range. Letterbarrow reduced the deficit on 36 minutes when John Roper scored with an unstoppable shot. Aaron Mc Clafferty extended Glenree’s lead on 55 minutes and on 75 minutes Andrew Kelly made the points safe. Mc Clafferty then got his second on 88 minutes to complete the scoring. Referee: Enda Martin

Gweedore United                              0            v 7                   Cranford United

This game played at Carrickboyle saw the visitors get a comprehensive 3 points against a weak United side who are finding it really difficult this season with a lot of young players from the youth system coming into the senior team. Goals from Dale Mc Fadden, James Mc Bride and Chris Duffy made it 3-0 at half time. In the second half further goals from Kevin Doherty, two from Keelan Mc Groddy and Iarlach O’Boyle made it 7-0 to complete the romp. Referee: Seimí Ferry

Drumkeen United                             5            v 1                   Copany Rovers

Drumkeen continued their recent good form and proved too strong for visitors Copany at St Patrick’s Park on Sunday afternoon. Lee Guthrie had a great day last week scoring all 5 in Letterbarrow and he was at it again this week as his first half hat-trick had the home team three up at the break. Lee is very calm from the penalty spot and his third goal was another one of his well taken penalties. Niall Bonner added a fourth goal early in the second half. Richie Moore celebrated his Birthday by scoring number 5 after 65 minutes. Copany got a Consolation goal near the end when Kevin Boyle was unfortunate to put the ball in to his own net.
