Sligo councillor calls for fodder scheme to be introduced immediately

A Sligo councillor has called on the Minister for Agriculture to put in place a fodder scheme for farmers in the north west.

Independent Councillor Margaret Gormley made the call today at a meeting of Sligo County Council.

It follows two meetings on the fodder crisis held over the weekend, one organised by the IFA in Claremorris, the other by the INHFA in Sligo.

Both meetings were well attended.

Cllr Gormley said it is vital that the minister recognises the seriousness of the situation now and puts a scheme in place before it’s too late.
