Updated: Donegal Co Co says all roads gritted, people urged to slow down in winter conditions



UPDATE FROM DONEGAL CO CO:

Donegal County Council says its crews have been on the roads gritting since half past five this morning.

Donegal County Council says roads have been gritted and all our crews have been mobilised in this area since 5.30am this morning.

The Council is urging all motorists to take extra care when driving in these winter conditions and to assume that no road is ice free.

Meanwhile, Gardai state that a two vehicle crash at Ballintra crossroads earlier has been cleared. One person was brought to hospital with minor injuries.

Motorists say traffic is moving slowly now on the Mountcharles bypass.

8:30am:

Motorists in south Donegal are urged to be extremely careful on the roads this morning with reports of a number of collisions already this morning.

The emergency services are at the scene of another crash at Ballintra crossroads on the Ballyshannon to Donegal town road.

It’s reports traffic is at a standstill on the Mountcharles bypass from the Inver side due to ice on the hill there.

There has also been a crash on the old road out of Donegal town towards the Tullyearl bypass. Motorists are advised to slow down. Ocean FM News is awaiting for further information from Donegal County Council on the matter.

Gardai in Manorhmailton are warning that the Rossinver and Blacklion roads are dangerous.

Roads in south Sligo in the Tubbercurry and Curry areas are also a hazard and Gardai are warning motorists to slow down on all routes this morning.

8am:

At least two cars have crashed this morning as a result of icy conditions.

Gardai are at the scene of a crash on the Ballyshannon to Bundoran bypass where there’s been a single vehicle collision.

Another car has also left the road this morning in the Ballaghadereen area and motorists are urged to slow down on all routes due to black ice.

The roads in county Donegal appear to be the worst with delays now on the Mountcharles to Inver bypass due to a very icy stretch.

The N15 and the finner road into Ballshannon are also dangerous.
