Sligo Leitrim Sinn Fein TD Martin Kenny says even if an election is averted ‘this government is on life-support’.

Deputy Kenny says Sinn Fein will move their no confidence motion in the Justice Minister.

He says if Fianna Fail abstains it may avert an election in the short-term but the goverment is clearly unstable and an election is inevitable.

He says Minister Frances Fitzgerald must go:

A Sligo Fianna Fail councillor says politicians should consult with the people who elected them before making what he describes as ‘crazy decisions’ about holding an election.

Councillor Seamus Kilgannon, cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council, says it would cost €40m to run a general election that nobody wants at this time.

Meanwhile, Fine Gael is pushing ahead with its plans to have up to 20 candidate selection conventions held by tomorrow night.

The rest are to take place by the weekend, with the Sligo/Leitrim convention possibly on Wednesday or Thursday night in Carrick on Shannon.
